I'm a Terrible Mother
So Wyatt has now experienced his first real injury. He was standing leaning on his dresser like he always does, but this time when he sat down he just started screaming. At first I thought he had bumped his head as he went down so I started rocking him close to me. I pulled away a little to see where he had hit his head to find blood everywhere. So Wyatt was freaking out and now I started to freak out because in that moment my brain completely shut down and I had no idea what to do. The blood was coming from his mouth, but there was so much I could not tell what had happened, so of course I called Rick right away, but if any of you have every tried to get a hold of Rick when you really need to, you know he never answers his phone. So then, I moved on to someone I know will always answer their phone on the first ring, my mom. By the time that happened I had isolated the injury to Wyatt’s lip (He must have bit down hard as he was sitting down.).
My mother calmly suggested ice or a popsicle. It all made so much sense, but I had really lost it by then. After talking with my mom I sent the emergency alert signal to Rick by calling his phone about 20 times in a row before he finally left his patient to answer his phone. Wyatt is fine, I am probably more scarred than he is. His lip is swollen and has turned white (Rick says that is a good thing??), but it doesn’t seem to bother him.
As if that were not enough on Tuesday the pediatrician made me feel terrible. Wyatt went in for his one year check up. Apparently Wyatt does not weigh enough for how tall he is. I promise I do feed this child. The doctor told me to start feeding him sausage, rich sauces, cheese, pasta, and ice cream (yes ice cream). I may not even be able to start Wyatt on whole milk he may have to stay on formula because it supposedly has more calories. This has me totally paranoid about what Wyatt is eating because if he doesn’t gain weight by his 15 mo check up, he’ll have to see a nutritionist. I have been trying to feed him ice cream but he just won’t eat it – he must get that from Rick. He just likes vegetables…and bananas. If anybody has any ideas how to fatten up a baby, please let me know.

You are the furthest thing from a baby mommy. Both of my sisters had to put there babies on weight gainer because there kids were so small. I think one of my sisters got a drink from her doctor that was like a protein thing and the other was told to feed him baby Ensure in a bottle. Hope that helps.
Janae you are a terrific mommy! I think Wyatt is just perfect the way he is (and that's coming from someone who is 4 weeks away from a master's degree)!!!
I actually have heard of the Ensure thing in a bottle. I actually drank these for awhile and I gained weight. Maybe ask the Dr. about Ensure. The kid looks healthy to me. I wish Dr. Ho was still there. If it makes you feel better, Sofia's head is in the 10%ile. What that means for her future schooling?? I dont know. I know what you mean about freaking out on the first injury. I completely lost it when Sofia fell off the couch. (she was under a month old). I was hysterical. Yes, I too called Nate first, but he NEVER EVER picks up in an emergency. I had to call my mom and she calmed me down. I ended up running her across the street to Dr Ho (oh I just love living across the street from them in times like this) and I had to watch her for 24 hours for a concussion. I blamed myself (and still do) for her first injury, but these are just inevitable. All the blood must have been so scary though! I think I would have fainted.
Janae you are a great mom. I have not ever questioned your mothering tactics. Keep up the great work. I am available most of the time. Wyatt is lucky to have you as a mom.
The trick for gaining wait is...CHIPS!!! They are Lucas' favorite food. He can eat at least 3 small bags all by himself! All of the pictures are so cute! I'm glad Wyatt survived his lip incident!
Isn't that the best feeling in the world? When the Doc tells you your baby is too skinny. They tell us Ty is too- but we've just stuck to the whole milk and pasta thing... and finally at his 18 month check-up, he reached the 50th precentile for weight (he's off the charts on height), and the dr. congratulated us. Keep on doing what you're doing- I'm sure you're a great mom and Wyatt is lucky to have someone like you to take care of him!!
While I can't give you any advice (sorry) maybe Trey and Wyatt could get together because Trey eats just about everything!!! Everyone tells me he's going to be a linebacker (though he's only in the 50th percentile in height and weight). I agree with some of the other comments- don't worry too much, he'll come around... all in due time! We miss you guys!
Janae, this is just from Mom Shamo. I got the very same comments from all the doctors for our kids. They just are skinny for a while. It's just their genetic structure. Besides, I think they still must be using the weight guides that are based on a german physique or something, because I don't really think that all babies are going to grow the same way. If he is eating well, and he has energy to do all the normal things babies do in a day, forget the doctor. He is just going by some stupid chart. Every baby is different. You should also talk to Brandy about it. Because she and Eric are both so small, they get the double whammy as the pediatricians are all sure that the kids are undernourished, but they run and play and think very clearly and alertly - they just are from small parents. At least you don't have to worry about the height thing. By the way, Peyton is in the 95% for height, but only the 5th % for weight. Don't worry about it.
