Clara Luana Shamo

Clara Luana Shamo was born October 18th at 3:49 am. She weighed in at 7 lbs 5.6 oz and was 19.5 in long.

Here is the story of how she got here, if you don't like that sort of thing just look at her cute pictures. I was all set for a scheduled induction on the 20th, but I guess she couldn't wait. I started having contractions Monday night around 9ish enough that I called my friend Suzanne to see if she was available if they should turn into something real overnight. The were serious enough that Rick and I finally packed a hospital bag then when they had stopped by 10 I started to feel pretty silly for thinking it may have been the real thing. They started back up around 11 and I timed them for an hour and decided to call the doctor. She told me to come in to get checked around midnight, but I was still a little unsure and Rick was tired from the night shift the night before so we waited another 40 minutes or so. Finally we called Suzanne who was so great to come over around 1 am. We finally got in the car at 1:21 am, I only remember this I was still timing contractions. Rick kept offering to drop me off at the hospital instead of having me park with him in the employee lot, but I was still worried I was going to look like an idiot for coming in for nothing so I decided I should just walk with him, in hindsight maybe not the best idea.We sat around the labor and delivery floor for awhile before I was finally sent to triage and was checked at 2:20am and I was at a five. Once I got the go ahead that this was the real thing I requested the epidural. We got to the labor and delivery room around 2:50 and I made Rick take the above picture realizing I didn't have a picture of me pregnant with Clara. There were two women ahead of me and I had to wait until 3:20 am to get my epidural. Right as I got it the contractions started to get really bad. This entire time the nurses, residents, and doctors were predicting a really big baby. About five minutes after the epidural my water broke, apparently that was making everyone think this was such a big baby, she was just very cushioned. I may be a little bitter about the weeks I was told avoided sugar completely to keep her weight under control. I was checked and was at a 7. I was still in a ton of pain and the epidural was not kicking in near fast enough. I was checked 5 minutes later and was ready to push. The only problem was I did not want to at all, the epidural was still kicking in and I was feeling way too much in my opinion. I just remember asking if we could wait for the medicine to kick in, the nurse did let me wait through a couple contractions. Rick remembers that I was really loud. The doctor was called back in and in three pushes, about 5 minutes, Clara was here. It all seemed to happen really fast which was a good thing because my epidural had definitely not had time to fully kick in.

Clara warming up under the lamps with dad.

She has so much dark hair, it was definitely unexpected, but we LOVE it.

The boys got to come meet Clara on Tuesday afternoon. Wyatt was very excited.
Owen was much more interested in my moving bed.
First family picture, and the only one so far, we really need to be better picture takers.

Me and Clara ready to leave the hospital.

Coming home.
She is so sweet...
...and so small compared to our other babies, which is another surprise since we were expecting a bit of a giant.

First bath at home.
Clara's name was pretty much set before we even knew she was coming. Clara is the girl name we liked before we found out Wyatt was a boy so it was been around for awhile and we never really discussed another option.
Clara's middle name, Luana (pronounced loo-auna), is Rick's Grandma Shamo's name. She is an amazing woman Clara is lucky to share a name with her.

Her brother's love her! Wyatt is always willing to hold her and it may be the cutest thing ever to hear Owen say "Baby Clara."
So far she has been a great baby! She is so sweet and snuggly and has been sleeping really well so far, we will see how long that last since she is only 5 days old. Welcome to our family Clara, we love you!
