Rick had a golden weekend (coming home Thursday morning after working overnight and not having to go back in until Monday) the weekend before school started so we planned a quick camping trip to The Cape. I am not going to lie it feels kind of cool to call it "The Cape," the east coast must be rubbing off on me a little bit.
Honestly it was AMAZING, I totally get what all the hype is about. We didn't love our campsite (mental note don't go back to Paine's), but thanks to the advice of a local teenager we found ourselves and the most amazing beach. It was in Eastham and was called First Encounter.
The pictures do not even do it justice. It was clean and so kid friendly.
We got there at low tide and you could walk out for almost a
mile through tiny pools Clara could crawl through, they were perfect for
capturing crabs and what we chose to call tadpoles. Our only regret was not having skim boards, it would have been the ideal location.
The weather was perfect, not too hot, not too humid, just right.
Again I am amazed at how these kids will sleep anywhere. I have done nothing to train them I am just blessed that they have come this way.
Just for a comparison this is the same spot at low tide....
...then again at high tide.
Wyatt was in heaven.
Rick took this picture of Owen that just makes me laugh.
We did make our way to one lighthouse, I am pretty sure this one was the Nausset Lighthouse.
Camping was great too.
Rick dutch ovened for us each day.
Even though the fire pits left a lot to be desired Wyatt was able to roast an ample amount of marshmallows.
Where is Owen in all these pictures you say? Oh just asleep in the car (we did have all the windows down).
Then to prove all of our children will fall asleep anyway, Wyatt fell asleep sitting up in a chair after our long day at the beach.
One thing I wish I had a picture of from our campsite was the shower adventure. I know camping is dirty, but a day at the beach requires a rinse off. The showers were timed and were pretty pricey per minute so we had quite the adventure with all the kids in an outdoor shower in the dark by head lamp, priceless memories....or if I recall correctly it ended up being about $5.
On Saturday we pack up camp and headed home via Plymouth since we were already so close. There was quite the traffic getting off "the cape" (there I go again), just another reason I am so grateful for this DVD player.
When we got to Plymouth there was a huge festival going on.
Wyatt became an apprentice to a tin smith.
Wyatt with "the" Plymouth Rock.
Owen was much more interested with the remaining powder doughnuts he found from our camping trip.
The Mayflower II (a replica of the original)
On the way home we stopped at an awesome little diner in the middle of nowhere. Wyatt finished his dinner and they brought him the most amazing Sundae,
Owen as usual did not eat his dinner so he was left to make boats out of whatever he could find and watch Wyatt enjoy all the ice cream.
It was a really quick trip, but so relaxing at the same time. It was the perfect farewell to summer right before school started.

Plymouth Rock, or as I like to say Plymouth Pebble.
You are such a great documentarian!! I feel like I was on the trip with you!! Wish I had been. Miss you Shamos!
I can't believe we were there on the same weekend & didn't get together! We saw Plymouth a little, but didn't explore "the Cape" like I'd like....although Nantucket was wonderful. We might have to plan a get together while we are both out East. :)
Looks like such a fun trip! I'm glad you had a weekend together! Your kids are getting SO BIG, I just can't believe it.
