Rick went to an Oral Surgery Conference in New Jersey this past weekend, so I took Wyatt out on a date. We went to Wendy's for dinner and then we went to the local high school's musical, CATS. Wyatt was so excited because I had been talking about it all week. He had special candies he saved all week to eat at the show.
The had a carnival before the show where you could meet the cast (Wyatt loved this), get cat tattoos, get your face painted (Wyatt refused to have this done), color a picture of cats, there were tons of cat stickers, and a yarn ball toss. It was really cute and all included in our $5 tickets.
I was a little concerned when I realized our seat were assigned and we were in the middle of our row near the front, but the people next to us loved how excited Wyatt was, and he was good the whole time (it may have had something to do with the constant flow of candy I was giving him).
Wyatt loved the show he was squealing when the lights went down and the music started, I am sure this is mainly because I had been building it up for so long. After each song he had to hand me his snack bag so he could clap with the rest of the audience.
At intermission we went and met Old Deuteronomy,
and another random cat on stage, where they signed Wyatt's playbill.
Wyatt almost made it through the whole thing, he fell asleep on my lap during the last song. It was a lot of fun and I plan on going again with him next year.
As for the show itself, I was really impressed with the talent for a high school. I had never seen CATS before and I didn't realize there is no story line, it is just a bunch of songs about different kinds of cats, which most of you know I don't really care for. Overall it was a great night, with a great date.

What a fun date with Wyatt. The look on Wyatt's face in all of the pictures is priceless. He is such a great child and you should be very proud of him. You are a great mom!!!!
What a great little date night! I'm sure that Wyatt is going to remember his special night with you, you are a great mom! I can't wait to take Nora to little theatre shows like this...It teaches kids so much!
fun janae!!! i am so surprised that he got so close to the "cat." well no i'm not because wyatt is the best kid ever.
Sounds like a great night out.
You are a great mom. I am always impressed with the fun activities you do with Wyatt! Do you remember when we were little we would go on Daddy Daughter Dates? I think it is so important for you to have special one on one time with your kids that they can get excited about and always remember!
Hey...let's skype again soon!
Wow Janae, you come up with the most clever ideas of things to do and are so brave to go by yourself with Wyatt. I never would have thought of taking my kids to a musical when they were that young. It is cute to see how excited he is to be there. You are really teaching Wyatt to be a well rounded young man. Kudos to you!!!!
Happy Birthday to Ricky today. Miss you guys!
Wyatt is such a little man, cute post!
how sweet! i love date nights with the little guys. how lucky is wyatt!? you rock~
So much fun!!!!! I love taking Lucas to experience new things! And we also bring along candy. :D
I am surprised he wasn't scared of the cats...maybe that it's just me that is frightened of 6 foot cats with green faces?
He is darling...isn't being a mom the best...most the time!
How sweet...a mommy/son date! What a fun way to spend the night :)
How fun! I love that you went on a date with Wyatt. I took my 3 year old neice to see Lion King down in NYC and we sat in the middle of the row. I was so nervous the whole time but somehow we made it through... I had to make shoe laces seem like a lot of fun and agree with her that the lions were girls and not boys so she wouldn't argue with me.
Thanks for confirming for me that I still don't ever want to see CATS.
NEW POST!!! NEW POST!!! NEW POST!!!!
