yesterday

Yes, I know this is a terrible picture, but you have to remember the camera I am working with here. Wyatt and I were out running a million errands yesterday. The first item that is noteworthy was that Wyatt and I were complete twins. I didn't notice this until we were at the post office, and then I was embarassed. I guess I could claim that I was dressed first, but since I also dressed Wyatt I guess that excuse doesn't fly. Wyatt has really taken to picking his own clothes out in the morning (well at least the shirt, and then I coordinate the bottoms; he doesn't need to be looking totally crazy all the time) and yesterday the beloved wakemonkey shirt was clean (a close second choice to the bumper car shirt he always asks for, but it is almost always dirty). Anyway, we were twins, something I am not a fan of people intentionally doing with their children, but oh well we still had many a stores to go to.

So we were at our local Walmart. Wyatt has a book, "Llama, Llama Mad at Mama" (yes it is a sequel to his favorite "Llama, Llama Red Pajama") that is all about being a patient shopper with 'Mama' we love this book and I highly recommend the series (can you call it a series when there are only two books?). Anyway in this book Llama, Llama holds onto the the cart with his Mama instead of being strapped in. Wyatt prefers this method to the confinement of the cart. So there we were standing in front of the Capri-Suns, I was debating if $1.75 was too much to spend on a box of the fruity drinks (we are buying a house here people, I didn't get them) and Wyatt was standing very patiently in one place holding onto the side of the cart. That was the scene when it happened. A teenager, and by teenager I do not mean a 13 or 14 year old, I mean a 18 or 19 year old was hurrying down the aisle with his girlfriend, texting on his phone, and arguing with the girl PLOWED Wyatt over. I mean Wyatt was on the ground and the punk even stepped on his hand. Wyatt was traumatized! I scooped Wyatt up, he was crying hysterically and asking me to kiss his hand. All this boy could say to me was "sorry, I didn't see him" and more than the words that were said it was his tone that implied I am not really sorry at all, he should not have been standing in my way. I was livid. I did not respond well. This is what I said, "You should be sorry. You need to apologize to him." Then he glared at me and Wyatt (who was still screaming) and walked away. I probably didn't have the best response, I still don't know what I should have done, but the mean look and walking away, REALLY??? I am still disturbed by the whole situation.

Wyatt was so sad I broke down and did two things I NEVER do, and will probably never do again. I bought Wyatt a toy to make him feel better. These dinosaurs were 88 cents (we are still buying a house here people), and they made Wyatt SOOO happy. As we were leaving I also let Wyatt ride the mechanical horse that he always asks about, hence the picture at the beginning of this post.

What a RUDE person! I can't believe that teenager would be so inconsiderate to such a little kid! SO RUDE! I think that your mother bear instincts were perfect!

I probably would have said worse things to that teenager. It's good you kept your cool. I can't believe people can be that rude. As for the matching, I don't know how many times I've walked out of the house and realized that Sam and I were matching, too many to count.

I got mad reading this post. I think what you did was perfect. I would have said something horrible and really had to repent that night, big time. You were perfect and classy yet protective. Im having a conversation with that punk in my head right now...haha. Im a dork. I think the dinosaurs made wyatts day. Look how happy he was! I would have totally ran over to aisle 3 to pick up a barbie doll :)

Wyatt I am so sorry that you had a bad experience with a rude teenager. I hope your mother tells you often about this that so when you are a teenager you are much kinder to others. Janae you handled the experience perfectly. Keep up the good job of being a protective mother.

I love that you told the kid to apologise to Wyatt! I hate those kind of situations because I always want to play the wuss and say "it's okay" when really it isn't. Yay for mama! PS- this time I think you were justified in the 88 cent dinosaurs.

I would have done the exact same thing! I hope he is alright. don't worry about matching clothes. I find sometimes I go out of the house and ALL of us are wearing the exact same thing :( I hate that, but I get a laugh out of it!!

I am sorry about this event. I would be upset also. I think you told him the right thing. He should have said he was sorry to Wyatt.

Too bad the biker dudes that came to Logan's rescue at Target weren't there! They could have taught that hooligan a lesson or two about manners!

That is such a funny story! I so wish I could have seen your reaction. We miss you. I have not been on the blogs forever so I am catching up. Wyatt is so advanced now. I wish we were there to see it.

I can't believe someone actually ran over cute little Wyatt and didn't even seem sorry!! It's probably good you resisted the urge to plow the guy over with your shopping cart in revenge, though I'm sure it would've been tempting. I think telling him to apologize was perfect, and he definitely should have!! (And I love that you bought him consolation dinosaurs. I think they were TOTALLY justified!)
